Our Approach to Passwords & Sensitive Information
Privacy, Security & Respect for Your Data
Main Street Tech works closely with individuals, families, and communities—often inside personal digital spaces. Because of this, we treat privacy and sensitive information with the highest level of care, intention, and restraint.
Our philosophy is simple: we do not want access to your passwords, private data, or personal accounts—and we actively design our work to avoid it. Trust is earned not by knowing everything, but by knowing what not to know.
We believe the safest data is data we never see.
Our Approach to Passwords & Sensitive Information
We use a deliberate, structured process to ensure your private information stays private—even while we help you.
1. We Design Support to Avoid Password Exposure
Whenever possible, we guide clients to:
Enter passwords themselves
Change passwords after a session if access was temporarily required
Use device-level prompts or secure password managers rather than sharing credentials
If something requires a login, you stay in control.
2. We Never Record or Store Passwords
We do not:
Write down passwords
Save credentials
Photograph screens
Store login information in notes, systems, or files
If access is needed during a session, it is temporary, visible, and client-controlled.
3. We Encourage Secure Systems That Reduce Sharing
We often help clients set up:
Password managers
Device-level security features
Recovery and backup options
Family or trusted-contact access tools (where appropriate)
These systems allow help without exposure and independence without risk.
4. We Use “Least Access” by Default
We only access what is necessary to complete the task at hand—and nothing more. We do not browse, explore, or review personal content unless explicitly asked, and we explain what we’re doing before we do it.
5. We Normalize Boundaries
We actively reassure clients that:
They never need to tell us a password
It’s okay to say “no” or ask questions
Privacy is not an inconvenience—it’s a priority
Our job is to support you, not to oversee your digital life.
A Thoughtful, Trust-First Practice
Our work is built on long-term relationships, discretion, and respect. By intentionally limiting what we see, know, and retain, we reduce risk and create a safer, more comfortable experience for everyone involved.
Technology should feel helpful—not exposed.
