Community Services
Main Street Tech partners with communities to make technology more accessible, understandable, and empowering.
We work with both public orgs (eg. COA, libraries) and private residential communities to deliver patient, practical technology education and support.
Through classes, workshops, help desks, and custom programs, we help people build confidence, stay connected, and participate more fully in today’s digital world—at their own pace and without intimidation.
-
Building confidence with everyday technology
Our classes and workshops help people feel comfortable using modern technology in their daily lives. Designed for beginners and lifelong learners alike, we cover practical topics in clear, plain language—creating a supportive, judgment-free environment where questions are always welcome.
-
Reliable, on-site tech support for your members
Our help desk services provide regular, in-person technology assistance for community members. We offer patient, one-on-one support for devices, software, and connectivity issues—giving people a trusted place to turn when they need help or reassurance.
-
Customized technology programs for your community
Our digital enrichment programs combine classes, workshops, and ongoing support into a cohesive, long-term offering. Built around your community’s specific needs, these programs promote independence, confidence, and meaningful engagement with technology over time.
Classes & Workshops $150 (90 mins)
Our community programs bring accessible, engaging technology education to senior centers, libraries, residential communities, nonprofit organizations, and civic groups. Through interactive workshops, informative lectures, and guided discussions, we create spaces where people can learn together, ask questions freely, and build confidence with technology. Programs can be customized to your community's needs and delivered on-site or virtually. No question is too basic, and no one is left behind.
Each 90-minute session is designed for groups and can be tailored to your community's specific interests and skill levels. Presentations include visual aids, real-world examples, and time for questions.
Topics
-
Start from the ground up with fundamental concepts everyone should know—what apps really are, how files work, where things get saved, and why your device asks for updates. This no-judgment workshop builds confidence by explaining the "why" behind everyday technology, not just the "how." Perfect for anyone who feels like they missed the instruction manual.
-
Demystify where your information actually goes when you're "online" and what people mean when they talk about "the cloud." Learn how websites work, what browsers do, why some things need WiFi and others don't, and how to think about the invisible infrastructure connecting your devices. You'll leave understanding the internet as a tool you control, not a mysterious force.
-
Cut through the hype and understand what artificial intelligence actually is, what it can and can't do, and how it's already part of your daily life. From voice assistants to photo organization to personalized recommendations, we'll explore real examples without technical jargon. This workshop helps you make informed decisions about which AI tools might genuinely help you—and which ones to approach with healthy skepticism.
-
Discover how smart home devices can simplify daily routines, improve safety, and enhance independence without adding complexity. We'll explore practical applications like voice-controlled lights, smart thermostats, video doorbells, and emergency monitoring. Learn what's worth investing in, what's overhyped, and how to start small with technology that truly serves your needs.
-
Navigate the growing world of digital health tools with confidence—patient portals, telemedicine appointments, prescription management, wearable devices, and health monitoring apps. This session covers how to access your medical records online, communicate with providers digitally, and evaluate which health tech tools are genuinely useful versus those that create unnecessary anxiety.
-
Protect yourself from scams, phishing, identity theft, and unwanted tracking without becoming paranoid. Learn to recognize red flags, create strong passwords you can actually remember, enable two-factor authentication, and understand what information you're sharing—and with whom. This practical workshop emphasizes real threats and effective solutions, not fear.
-
Shop online safely and confidently, from reading reviews and comparing prices to understanding shipping and handling returns. We'll cover how to spot trustworthy retailers, protect your payment information, track orders, and know your rights as a consumer. You'll learn when shopping online makes sense and when it's better to shop in person.
-
Take control of your digital legacy by learning how to organize online accounts, passwords, photos, and important files so loved ones can access what they need when the time comes. This thoughtful, practical session covers creating a digital inventory, securing sensitive information, assigning a digital executor, and making your wishes clear—all without morbid or overwhelming language.
-
Understand Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms without the confusion or pressure. Learn how to connect with family and friends, share photos and updates, control privacy settings, and recognize content you should ignore. This judgment-free workshop acknowledges both the benefits and drawbacks of social media, helping you decide what role—if any—it should play in your life.
-
Build your technology vocabulary with clear explanations of terms everyone uses but few people explain—WiFi, Bluetooth, browsers, apps, operating systems, cookies, passwords, encryption, phishing, malware, backups, and more. This fast-paced, engaging session gives you the foundation to understand technology conversations, follow tech news, and ask better questions.
-
Bridge the generation gap and communicate the way your family actually communicates—through texts, photos, video calls, and messaging apps. Learn texting etiquette, how emojis work, when to call versus text, and how to keep up with group chats without feeling overwhelmed. This fun, lighthearted workshop helps you stay connected on your grandchildren's terms.
-
Discover the incredible world of digital culture—streaming music and movies, audiobooks, podcasts, virtual museum tours, online classes, digital photography, and creative apps. This inspiring session showcases how technology can enrich your hobbies, introduce you to new interests, and connect you with communities of like-minded people anywhere in the world.
-
Get hands-on experience with the most useful, underappreciated tools that make technology easier—screenshot features, voice typing, calendar sharing, photo editing basics, document scanning with your phone, Find My Device, password managers, weather apps, translation tools, and accessibility features. You'll walk away with practical skills you can use immediately.
-
Preserve precious photographs, home videos, letters, and documents by converting them to digital formats that last forever and can be easily shared with family. Learn about scanning services, photo organization strategies, cloud storage options, and how to create digital albums that bring memories to life. This emotional, practical workshop ensures your legacy is protected and accessible for generations.
